Double Girder EOT Crane Manufacturer in India: 2 to 100 Ton
If your crane has to lift heavy loads, cover a wide bay, or run every shift without drama, a double girder EOT crane is usually the right call. WSP Cranes & Services designs and manufactures them at our Pune works for steel plants, fabrication shops, foundries, power plants and warehouses across India.

What is a double girder EOT crane?
An EOT (Electric Overhead Travelling) crane runs on rails high up along your shop walls, lifting and moving loads over the whole floor. In a double girder design, two girders carry the hoist trolley (crab) between them. The hook hangs down in the gap, so you get more hook height and a stiffer, stronger structure than a single girder crane.
The result: it handles heavier loads, longer spans and tougher duty cycles, with smooth motion and less swing when you are positioning a load.
Single girder vs double girder: which one do you need?
Here is a quick comparison. If most of your answers fall in the right column, go for a double girder crane.
| Factor | Single girder | Double girder |
|---|---|---|
| Typical load | Light to medium | Medium to very heavy |
| Span | Short to medium bays | Long bays, up to 50 m |
| Hook height (headroom) | Lower | Higher, hook lifts between the girders |
| Working duty | Occasional or light | Continuous or heavy |
| Extras (walkways, cabin, second hoist) | Limited | Easy to add |
| Upfront cost | Lower | Higher, but built for a longer, harder life |

What you get with a WSP double girder EOT crane
- Welded box girders: high-tensile steel construction with very low deflection, so the crane stays stable under load.
- Heavy-duty crab or hoist trolley: selected for your duty class (FEM / ISO).
- Smooth VFD drives: for hoisting, cross travel (CT) and long travel (LT), so starts and stops are gentle and loads do not swing.
- Precision travel wheels: machined and hardened EN wheels for long life and even rail wear.
- Efficient gearboxes: helical, case-hardened gear units.
- Fail-safe brakes: electromagnetic or electro-hydraulic thruster brakes.
- Your choice of control: pendant, radio remote, cabin, or a combination.
- Power feeding options: shrouded DSL, cable reeling drum or festoon system.
Every crane is made to order for your capacity, span, height of lift, duty class and working environment (hot, dusty, outdoor or corrosive).

How to choose the right double girder EOT crane
Getting these six things right avoids most problems after installation.
- Capacity: the heaviest load you lift, including the lifting beam, grab or other attachments. Allow for future growth.
- Span: the distance between the centres of the two crane rails.
- Height of lift: from the floor to the hook at its highest point. Check the headroom under the roof truss too.
- Duty class: how often and how heavily you lift. A crane used a few times a day and one used non-stop in a steel plant are not the same machine.
- Controls: pendant is simple and economical, radio remote keeps the operator clear of the load, and a cabin suits long spans and hot areas.
- Site conditions: power supply, indoor or outdoor use, temperature, dust, and the strength of your existing gantry columns and rails.

Frequently asked questions
When should I choose a double girder crane over a single girder crane?
Choose double girder when you lift heavy loads (typically above 10–20 ton), have a long span, need extra hook height, or run the crane for long hours every day. For lighter, occasional lifting, single girder is usually more economical.
What capacity and span can WSP build?
From 2 ton to 100 ton, with spans up to 50 m and height of lift up to 30 m. Each crane is designed for your building, duty cycle and load.
What details do I need to share to get a quotation?
Capacity, span (rail centre to rail centre), height of lift, working duty (hours per day and load pattern), control type, power supply, and building details such as rail level and headroom.
Which standards do you follow?
Design follows IS 3177 for EOT cranes and IS 807 for structural design, with the duty class selected to suit your application.
Can I operate the crane with a pendant, radio remote or cabin?
Yes. You can choose a pendant, radio remote, cabin, or a combined system depending on your layout and safety needs.
